is all done. It’s been done for a couple days now. I’m just now getting around to noting it. They say time flies when you’re having fun, yada yada, but in a way, it felt like a really long year. Just thinking about who I was on 1/1/12 and who I am on 1/3/13 feels crazy. I’ve changed for the better in a lot of ways, but have often felt like I’ve changed for the worse as well. Are you still a bad person if you can feel yourself becoming a bad person? I don’t think bad people have that sense of guilt. A lot of people have left my life. A lot have entered it and left too. A few unlucky bastards have stuck around presumably to warn the ones who haven’t showed up yet.

I don’t really have any resolutions because everyday I think about what I’m trying to do, who I want to be, etc. A lot of those things are in my control and a lot of it is out of my hands, but none of it has anything to do with it being January now. I’m all for whatever gets people motivated these days though.

In 2013 I hope to continue the direction I’m moving and ideally make it a little less bipolar than 2012. It got a little rocky there at times, but I’d still call it the best year of my life. I’m excited for what lies ahead in 2013.

Or something to that affect. I just wanted to wrap up a bit of what I thought of this election. I’ll preface this by saying that despite following the election pretty closely, I didn’t vote. I’ve never registered to vote and don’t plan on doing so unless I’m living in a true battleground state or we switch to a popular vote system. Yes, I realize if everyone had this attitude, things would be bad. Luckily, there are good people out there. I also kind of cringe at the idea of choosing a lesser of two evils. I’m jealous of other countries that have more parties to choose from. That’s how things should be in a representative democracy. It shouldn’t be this or that, because issues aren’t black and white. While he may be the lesser of two evils, I can’t cast a vote in support of a candidate that supports things like the NDAA.

That kind of brings me to my next thought, the Republicans really lost because they played the election on Obama’s terms. Gay marriage? Abortion? It seems all the major talking points in this election were right in Obama’s wheelhouse. Then again, maybe the reason they didn’t attack any of Obama’s weaknesses is because their policies for them are even worse.

Of course the major issue was the economy. Granted, there are more educated minds out there than me, but I feel like the president has a much less important role in the economy than many of us like to believe. Reagan deregulated everything is known as one of the best economic presidents ever, but the bad loans from banks and subsequent housing bubble collapse arguably could have been prevented with more regulation. How can we not just consider for a moment that maybe some regulations are good and some aren’t? Why does it have to be so black and white? Meanwhile, Clinton is pioneered as one of the best economic presidents of all time. Part of me feels that has less to do with whatever his policies were and more to do with the advent of the internet that pretty much changed the face of global economics forever.

Like I had been saying this whole election, the media has really let us down. ABC News said during their exit polls that (if memory serves) over 90% of Obama supporters thought he would win and over 80% of Romney supporters thought he would win. Clearly we are starting to find ourselves in our own media bubbles where we only hear what we want to. This isn’t a responsible road to go down. That is probably why the few Romney supporters (who live at home with their parents) in my news feed lament that this election was lost “just because people want more welfare from Obama” as if that was ever really a talking point in this election and I even saw one insist he was a Muslim. I really don’t see how things won’t continue to get worse moving forward in this regard because clearly media outlets have learned how to cater to and profit from their demographics. Until some unforeseen change occurs, we’re just going to end up with an increasingly misinformed general public making decisions based on misconceptions.

But oh well. Congratulations, Mr. Obama. Looking forward to seeing if you’re a bit looser with your decisions this time around without the burden of reelection weighing you down.

2nd Annual MLB Playoffs - Who I'm Rooting For

The coats are being taken out of closets. The leaves are changing colors. The annoying girl at work who has no immune system to speak of is treating all of those around her to an orchestra of mucus. That can only mean one thing, Postseason baseball. For reasons we are not going to talk about, my Pirates will be excluded once again, so here’s a rundown of how I feel about the current crop.

WILDCARDS

Since one of these teams in each pair will play one game and one game only, it is hard to get too very attached. Here’s how I feel about the teams that stand a 50/50 shot of being my steady postseason girlfriend or my one-9-inning-standing.

Braves vs. Cardinals

I kind of like the Braves. They were my other favorite team growing up because I could always watch them since they were on TBS. Now, I only really know Chipper Jones still. Now I’ve learned he cheated on his wife with a Hooters waitress. Despite how racist the Tomahawk Chop is, I still catch myself doing it when I’m bored and no one is looking and I’m really really sure no one is looking. I’ll give every team a grade I guess, and the Braves get a B.

The Cardinals won it all last year like the little Cinderellas they are and cruised past the Pirates on their way to yet another post season. I want to not like them, but there isn’t anything particularly offensive about them C.

Orioles vs. Rangers

Believe it or not, I’m pretty uninformed about American League baseball. Without doing any kind of research, I find it odd that both Baltimore’s MLB and NFL franchises are bird mascots. I don’t like birds. Why would you have one team, let alone 2 after birds? The Orioles are true underdogs like the Pirates. They have (had?) Nate McLouth. Um… yeah. B.

I haven’t learned anything interesting about the Rangers from last year, so I’m just going to say things I probably said before. They could go ahead and lose 3 World Series’ in a row (that’s new!). They instituted a no wave policy. So I guess I’ll root for them because of the no-wave thing, and then not root for them in the World Series so they can be the Buffalo Bills of the MLB and I like to see people suffer. B+.

DIVISION WINNERS

Giants

Melky (what kind of first name is that?) cheated and Posey took away McCutchen’s batting title. They have a guy on their team called The Big Panda. C-.

Reds

Aroldis Chapman drilling McCutchen with a pitch (and his room got robbed when he stayed here at the William Penn lololol) and Brandon Phillips accused Jared Hughes of being racist. Screw the Cincinnati Reds and anyone that likes them. F—.

Nationals

They are like the Pirates on steroids. Built through good draft picks that were the result of several abysmal years, but they actually have one of the richest owners in baseball. Bryce Harper seems like a tool though. B.

Yankees

I think I covered them last year. They are the evil empire that is supposed to win every single year, so when they do, it’s like no one wins. In that respect, they are kind of meh. C.

Tigers

I don’t want to see Tyler Perry make a movie in which he plays Prince Fielder winning a World Series. It will happen, just wait for it. Don’t let it happen. D.

A’s

I don’t even know how they made it into the playoffs, let alone won a division. I can’t name a player on the roster besides Brandon freaking Moss. If they win, it will pretty much ensure a Moneyball sequel, which was an above average movie. I’ll give them a pump in grade for their name’s sake. They A’s get an A. A-.

I found a treasure trove of cringe worthy YouTube videos including but not limited to young adult males expressing their genuine love for My Little Pony (they call themselves “bronies”) and a girl reading her Ashton Kutcher fan fiction at her middle school talent show. They are just as good/bad as they sound.
I can feel myself getting socially worn out meeting so many new people and I’m starting to just treat near strangers like good friends. It all feels so superficial anyway.
Someone tore off my back windshield wiper and I didn’t really care because I never use it. Now, I got my car inspected and they won’t pass it until I get a new one which they had to order for over $100. I care now.
The only thing I’m looking forward to about winter is I’ll have a chance to write mad scripts yo. Rereading “Story” by Robert McKee.
What’s some music I should listen to?
I’m going to teach myself to juggle soon.
